Dermatitis

Hand dermatitis is a inflammation condition that causes skin to be reddish, very itchy and scaly generally on the hand. It usually occurs when the hand comes in contact with any substance such as an irritant or that causes allergic reaction. When the hands are affected small blisters may be formed on the sides of the fingers. Cracking and splitting on the palms or around the fingers can cause pain. The hands can become dry. Hand dermatitis can also spread to the forearms and the feet.

The causes of hand dermatitis

• It may be caused by touching an irritant or by allergic reaction to any substance
• Contact with products like solvents like turpentine, kerosene which makes the skin dry
• Genetics can also cause hand dermatitis
• Frequent wetting and also drying of the hands and contact with detergents and soaps can cause irritation of the hands
• Cold weather conditions

The symptoms of hand dermatitis

• Redness and itching of the hands
• Blisters may occur due to bacterial infection
• The skin of the affected area becomes much thicker
• The affected area becomes very sensitive
• Bacterial infection can cause crusts, pain and pustules

To treat hand dermatitis avoid working in wet conditions. Wear vinyl gloves to protect your hands. Mud gloves can be used when working outside. Apply a thick barrier of cream on the affected area. Topical anti-biotic creams can be applied on the affected area to prevent infections.
